About

Why WE start?

The fashion industry is known to have significant environmental consequences. It contributes to pollution, deforestation, water scarcity, and waste generation. However, through the adoption of sustainability and circular economy principles, the industry can mitigate these negative consequences. A second-hand platform plays a vital role in this transformation by enabling the resale and reuse of clothing, extending their lifespan beyond the initial owner. By offering a diverse selection of pre-loved garments, we can cultivate a culture of conscious consumption, empowering individuals to make thoughtful purchasing choices. In doing so, we can contribute to minimizing the industry's environmental impact and promoting a more sustainable fashion ecosystem.

The Claim
The challenge

In 2022, the global market value of secondhand and resale apparel was estimated to be worth 177 billion U.S. dollars. This value is projected to rise rapidly in the coming years, almost doubling in size from 2022 to 2027, reaching a value of 351 billion dollars. (Source: Statista)

Consumers are often hesitant to buy secondhand goods because they are worried about the quality of the goods or the authenticity of the seller. The lack of trust is a major challenge for sustainable resale platforms, and we need to address this issue by providing more transparency and information about the goods that user sells.

Over four in 10 of festival attendees (42%) said they intend to purchase new attire—which could total 26.9 million items. Almost one-third of festival goers indicated they have purchased outfits they’ll only wear once—with 40% of Gen Zers saying they’re unlikely to re-wear outfits purchased for festivals/events. Online resale is the fastest-growing sector of the US second-hand market, expected to grow 21 per cent annually on average over the next 5 years, reaching US$38bn by 2027. (Source: Apparel Insider)

Sustainable resale platforms face the challenge of meeting consumers' specific wants and needs for secondhand special occasion outfits. The availability of desired items can be limited, making it difficult for consumers to find exactly what they are looking for.

A key challenge lies in facilitating smooth communication and interactions between sellers and buyers. This encompasses effectively managing inquiries, resolving disputes, and providing dedicated support for sellers throughout the selling process.

User research & interview

The user research aims to delve into individuals' perspectives and experiences regarding dressing up for special occasions, including musical festivals, halloween, and weddings, etc. I seek to gain insights into how people obtain their outfits for these events and explore their post-event practices. Specifically, I am interested in understanding whether individuals retain their outfits in their closets or opt to resell them. To achieve this, I have devised a comprehensive research plan that involves conducting interviews and administering a survey.

The survey was designed to gather insights from a diverse range of individuals, with a total of 144 responses collected. The survey questions were carefully crafted to better understand people's preferences and decision-making processes when it comes to selecting their outfits for special occasions.

In addition to the survey, I conducted in-depth interviews with five individuals, representing distinct categories: event enthusiasts, the general public, and sustainable fashion advocates. These interviews were conducted online, allowing for flexibility and ease of participation.

Please note that the in-depth interviews were customized based on the participants' unique experiences and perspectives, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of their thoughts and experiences in relation to special occasion dressing and post-event outfit management.

DEFINE

User PERSONA & JOURNEY

In this section, I have developed a user persona named Lily, who embodies the characteristics of a fashion enthusiast. By understanding Lily's preferences, needs, and motivations, we can gain insights into the experiences of users with similar traits.

Additionally, I have created a journey map specifically for Lily's special occasion dress shopping. This journey map outlines the various stages, emotions, and pain points that Lily encounters while searching for the perfect dress, allowing me to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.

Through the user persona and journey map, I aim to gain a deeper understanding of the specific challenges and considerations that fashion enthusiasts like Lily face when shopping for special occasion dresses. This information will enable me to tailor the ReGlam platform to better meet their needs and provide a more engaging and satisfying shopping experience.

IDEATE

USER FLOW & INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE

In this section, I have carefully designed and outlined the user flow for ReGlam, as well as its information architecture. The user flow encompasses the journey that users will take when interacting with the ReGlam platform, from the initial point of entry to the desired action or outcome. It ensures a smooth and intuitive experience for users, guiding them through the various steps and interactions.

Additionally, the information architecture of ReGlam has been structured in a logical and organized manner. This involves arranging the content, features, and functionalities of the platform in a way that facilitates easy navigation and efficient access to relevant information. The information architecture ensures that users can find what they are looking for effortlessly and understand the structure of the platform.

User test and feedback

I conducted a thorough testing of the prototype using Useberry, which proved to be instrumental in gathering valuable feedback to enhance the designs. The testing consisted of five essential tasks: Login & Sign Up, Exploration, Check Out, Manage User Profile, and Order Tracking. The results showcased a commendable 75% task completion rate, with an average completion time of approximately 3 minutes. The misclick rate was measured at 20%. Notably, the four users involved in the testing expressed their admiration for the UI design, praising its minimalistic approach, informative elements, and streamlined functionality. This positive feedback further validated the effectiveness and appeal of the design choices made for the ReGlam platform.

Reflection

Looking Forward

The future scope for the ReGlam app focuses on enhancing trust and credibility among its users. One approach is to establish a credit system that relies on user ratings, reviews, and return rates. This system would contribute to building trustworthiness within the community. Another solution to bolster trust is the implementation of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags. These tags would be attached to garments during shipping, ensuring that items are not switched during transit, thus enhancing the overall integrity of the platform. Additionally, conducting thorough damage inspections becomes crucial, particularly for rental products, allowing users to document any flaws in a timely manner. To further strengthen trust, ReGlam can incorporate a luxury authentication service that certifies the authenticity of high-end items, fostering trust between buyers and sellers. These measures collectively aim to solidify trust and credibility within the ReGlam community, creating a secure and reliable platform for users.
